Christ is against selfishness and sin—not because He is the giant spoilsport, but the other way around. He is against sin and selfishness because He is against despondency and melancholy and morbidity. He is against the shrinking of our capacity for fulfillment.

“A silly idea is current that good people do not know what temptation means. This is an obvious lie. Only those who try to resist temptation know how strong it is… A man who gives in to temptation after five minutes simply does not know what it would have been like an hour later. That is why bad people, in one sense, know very little about badness. They have lived a sheltered life by always giving in.”

[The mind] is the agent of the Almighty, clothed with mortal tabernacles and we must learn to discipline it, bring it to bear on one point and not allow the devil to interfere or confuse it nor divert it from the great object that we have in view.

Trees that can withstand the hurricane sometimes yield to destroying pests that can scarcely be seen except with the aid of a microscope. Likewise, the greatest foes of the individual are not always the glaring evils of humanity but subtle influences of thought and of continual association with companions.

At times many of us let that enemy of achievement – even the culprit of ‘self defeat’ – dwarf our aspirations, smother our dreams, cloud our vision, and impair our lives. The enemy’s voice whispers in our ears, “you can’t do it.” “You’re too young.” “You’re too old.” “You’re nobody.” This is when we remember that we are created in the image of God. Reflection on this truth provides a profound sense of strength and power.

Satan will always work on the saints of God to undermine their faith in priesthood keys. One way he does it is to point out the humanity of those who hold them. He can in that way weaken our testimony and so cut us loose from the line of keys by which the Lord ties to Him and can take us and our families home to Him and to our Heavenly Father.
…If we look for human frailty in humans, we will always find it.Speaker: Henry B. EyringPosted: 21 Aug 2008 at 11:06 AMComments: None... Be the first to comment! -
When we understand who God is, who we are, how He loves us, and what His plan is for us, fear evaporates. When we get the tiniest glimpse of these truths, our concern over worldly things vanishes. To think we actually fall for Satan’s lies that power, fame, or wealth is truly important is laughable – or would be were it not so sad.

Without a strong commitment to the Lord, an individual is more prone to have a low level of commitment to a spouse. Weak commitments to eternal covenants lead to losses of eternal consequence.
If Satan can get you to love anything – fun, flirtation, fame, or fortune – more than a spouse or the Lord with whom you have made sacred covenants to endure, the adversary begins to triumph.Speaker: Russell M. NelsonPosted: 21 Aug 2008 at 9:28 AMComments: None... Be the first to comment! -
When temptation comes, do not change your standards. Do not abandon them when circumstances seem to justify an exception. That is Satan’s way to hurt you by making it seem that sometimes God’s law does not apply. There are not exceptions.

The adversary would love to have us engaged with him, to fight him on his own territory. He would rather have us be angry toward him than ignore him and be involved in our own work on the Lord’s territory. If he can engage us, he can win. But if we have nothing to do with him, there is no way in which he can win. He is a parasite.
